Why – nobody would steal my number plates?!

Well, you are wrong. If your number plates are easily removed they could be used in a drive off, burglary or drug crime.

You might think that replacing your number plates is easy – all you have to do is contact Vicroads.

Well, not quite – firstly you need a police report.

Then you need to contact Vicroads but you also have to:

• contact your insurance company
• advise any other company that uses your number plates
• worst of all you will have to contest any infringement notices you receive (parking tickets, speeding fines etc)

From what we have been told, “it’s a real hassle”, “wish I had known about one way screws earlier” and “it was so time consuming”, “I had to deal with the police about something I didn’t know about – I didn’t realise my plates had been stolen.”
